Avatar: The Last Airbender Tabletop RPG Recommendations

Are you tired of Dungeons and Dragons?  Want to save the world from a dark conquerer, explore fantastic settings, and bend the very elements to your will, playing characters who emulate Aang, Katara, or Toph?  In short, do you want to base your campaign on Nickelodeon's incredibly popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, or its sequel, The Legend of Korra?

If so, we have the perfect role-playing games for you!  First we look at two systems, both based on the popular Apocalypse World system ("Powered by the Apocalypse"), which are specifically designed for telling stories like Avatar's.  After that we consider generic RPGs, which can be adapted to let you adventure in the world of Avatar, and a fan-made game that leverages the "D20" system (the core of Dungeons and Dragons).

Update: Magpie games recently announced (in February, 2021) that they will release an official table-top RPG, set in the world of Avatar.  Unfortunately there's just one problem: it won't be available until February, 2022.

Update #2: Although the game has been released to Kickstarter participants, it is still not yet available to the general public (as of June 16th, 2022).  However, the game is expected to be released soon, so stay tuned.
